About

What is Oregon Universal?
We are the Oregon chapter of the Universal Zulu Nation

Oregon Universal is an organization dedicated to preserving true school Hip-Hop. We are founded on the principles of peace, unity, love, and having fun.

Our Mission
Oregon Universal is an organization that educates through art and entertainment culture, and provides forums for people to unite and contribute to their local community's quality of life.

Background
In 1973, a young man named Afrika Bambaataa, began uplifting his community through grassroots organizing and uniting the elements of urban art. Bringing people together in the name of peace and love with community jams, helped give birth to the Universal Zulu Nation movement. It continues to spread throughout the worldbringing knowledge, wisdom, and understanding with it. There are now chapters throughout the world that focus on solutions to the local and world issues they face.

In 2005 the Zulu movement found its way to Oregon where a small group of artists, musicians, dancers, and parents united. They began utilizing their skills and talents to contribute back to the community. In 2009 they applied and received their 501(c)3 non-profit status officially forming Oregon Universal. They direct their energy towards serving the underrepresented and underpriviledged members of the community; building a stronger future for all.

Our Involvement
After school programs, food and clothing drives, all-age family-friendly events, community forums, partnerships and projects with other non-profit organizations.
